Here in Barcelona we are extremely fortunate to be home to one of the most extensive collections of Picasso artwork in the world.  Barcelona is home to the Museu Picasso de Barcelona (Picasso Museum of Barcelona).  The museum, which opened in 1963 at the request of Pablo´s best friend Jaume Sabartés, houses more than 3,800 original works.  Picasso arrived in the city in 1894 at the tender age of thirteen.  At the time he arrived he was already an up and coming artist, and Barcelona provided young Pablo with a space to learn and improve throughout his teenage years.  The museum best portrays these training years of Picasso´s life; we could say it is practically exhaustive up through Picasso´s well known Blue Period.

¨Secret Images. Picasso and Japanese Erotic Prints.¨ arrives at the Barcelona museum on November 5th and will be here through February 14th. The exhibition will, for the first time, bring together a series of erotic Japanese prints that were once part of Picasso´s own collection.  Picasso himself often depicted erotic scenes, especially at the start of his career (1900-1908) and at the end of his career (1964-1972).  It will be most interesting to see the foreign influences at the exhibition and ponder what impact these works may have had on Pablo Picasso´s career.

The Picasso museum is open six days a week, Tuesday through Sunday, from 10 am-8 pm.  Find an apartment close to the museum!
